Changing Courses

Thinking of Changing Course?

You may be thinking about changing or leaving your course. We can advise you of your options at what may be a worrying time for you. Many people successfully change courses either transferring to another course at ECU or to another University. Whether you change course or just decide to leave it is a very important decision. It is important to think through a number of issues before deciding what to do.

Financial

You will need to check fees (HECS and otherwise) associated with your new course. Check also where you stand with accommodation and welfare.

Academic

You need to check the entry requirements of the new course and how to explain your change of mind. You also need to speak to your current department e.g. your student support officer. It may be that with further support from your school that you could stay on in your course. Once you have researched your options, you should let your department know about your school/faculty.

Personal

You need to consider how a change will affect your career. A good idea is to draw up a list of advantages and disadvantages to changing or leaving.

The Careers Advisory Service can help you in a number of ways though. We have reference copies of university prospectuses and graduate destination statistics on a range of courses. We also offer confidential impartial guidance interviews to all current students. It is a difficult and important decision but many people do leave or transfer successfully and we're here to help!
