Recruiting Students
Ensure students are well informed about your organisation and its recruitment activities by holding an employer information session on campus. This is an excellent way to promote your employment opportunities and maintain your company's profile at ECU.Who attends? While sessions typically target students seeking graduate or vacation employment, students from all year levels are encouraged to attend as part of the career education process. You can identify whether you would like the information session to be advertised to a specific cohort of students. If the information session is tergetting students in a particular course, the session can be marketed to those students in their classes. When are the best times?Employer information sessions are run throughout the academic year. However to ensure maximum exposure, we recommend that sessions be scheduled for the first half of each semester when student presence on campus is greatest. It is also wise to avoid inter-semester and mid-semester breaks as well as periods close to exams.
We are, however, happy to accommodate any schedule your company may have.
Please allow at least four weeks from the time of your booking so that we have adequate time to promote your session to students.Venue/EquipmentFor each session, an appropriate venue on campus will be booked on your behalf and audio-visual equipment will be provided. Please let us know your specific requirements when you make your booking. Sessions may be either- stand alone usually 1 - 2 hours in length
- part of a series (for example a 1 -2 hours every week/fortnight)
- a short course, typically conducted over the university break periods
Tips - Include a recent graduate in your presentation. Students value hearing about their peers' work experiences.
- Have a balance of male and female speakers and remind presenters to consider the audience's cultural and gender diversity.
- Communicate your recruitment program schedule, reminding students of the steps in the application process, closing dates, interview dates etc.
CateringYou may wish to include refreshments with your employer information session or combine your session with a promotional sausage sizzle or lunch time BBQ. Details of how to organise appropriate catering will be provided when you make a booking.
If you would like to conduct an Information Session, please contact ECU Careers on 134 328 or email careers@ecu.edu.au to speak to a Careers Advisor who will discuss with you your requirements and options.
